WE have moved!

January 1, 2010

The Noise Ordinance website has moved to our permanent home: www.noiseordinanceCD.com … all future updates will occur over there.

ooooh, we’re getting fancy with our own domain name now!

Submission deadline has passed… and the discs are FULL! – but we’re still taking submissions

December 21, 2009

the deadline for band submissions has passed we are very pleased to announce that both discs are full. Yes, it is officially going to be a double-cd release. Can you believe Sarasota has this much original music?

… but we are still accepting new submissions that will go on a waiting list, in case some slots open up again. As is always the case with any project, some bands may end up having to dropout. You never know….

YEEHAW!

CD RELEASE PARTY is Feb. 20th at the Cock n Bull

December 17, 2009

We have a cd release party scheduled! I know this is a ways off yet, but I wanted to get this to you asap so you can clear your calendar for this ever-so-important day: SATURDAY FEBRUARY 20th, 2010 at the Cock n Bull Pub in Sarasota. It will be all day and night craziness featuring all the Noise Ordinance bands wrapped up in one.  So, all bands and artists-  please plan on playing about a half-hour set. Details will be forthcoming, as we get closer.

band submission deadline is December 20th

December 15, 2009

Yes, that’s THIS Sunday! If your band isn’t listed in the LINEUP and you are interested in being on this compilation disc, you must send in the submission form by this Sunday or you’ll miss your chance.

Even if your songs aren’t ready yet, still send in the form anyway. We don’t need the “final” songs or any money sent in right now (Jan. 24th is the deadline for that)…. so fill in the form and submit it already!  like now!

seeking sponsorships

December 8, 2009

Since it’s looking very likely that we will be going to a double disc release, we are going to try to snag sponsorships to help offset the final cost per band. If you’d like to help with this effort, email us at srq.noiseordinance@yahoo.com and we’ll send you the forms, etc.

the CD is filling up fast!

December 4, 2009

Wow!  We’re getting a lot of submissions and interest… this is fantastic!  Keep ‘em coming, and please help spread the word to other bands that this is happening. I want to make sure everyone has an opportunity to be on the cd that wants to be. There are still slots left, and if we really get a lot of entries we’ll push it up to a double disc.

We’ve also heard from Cock n Bull that they would like to host a showcase of all the bands out there, as a CD release party… so, details for that will be forthcoming (as we figure out when we are going to press and releasing the CD)

AND… Erin Murphy has officially tossed Finch House into the ring as a co-presenter.  Yay yay yay!  I’m getting a lot of great feedback from everyone. This is getting very exciting!

NOISE ORDINANCE

On a California vacay, Elysian Sex Drive drummer Claire Franklin thought of Sarasota/Bradenton’s growing original music scene. “Everybody’s really supportive of everybody,” she said, “and it seems to be like a ‘family’ kind of thing, you know. And I just figured, ‘What better way to, kind of, embrace that than by putting everybody together on a CD and letting everybody kinda cross-promote each other?’” As owner of Blue Medusa Studios, she’ll oversee/produce the compilation, and already conducted a Facebook naming contest. Attorney Barbara Day Welsh chose the most popular entry: “Noise Ordinance.” (Welsh gets mentioned in the credits and a free copy.) Of the disc’s namesake, Franklin said, “It’s caused a lot of things to get shut down and go away. It’s just been a problem. Kind of, naming the CD ‘Noise Ordinance,’ I thought, ‘That’s just so fitting because that really has been the one common thread throughout all these years in Sarasota music — the Sarasota noise ordinance hangin’ over everybody’s head!’ ” Franklin envisions a “wild assortment” of musical styles on the disc (or two discs if interest is considerable), with each participant sharing printing costs (estimated at “well under $100 per band”) and getting an equal number of finished CDs when done. Interested original music makers, sponsors, whomever, may find contact/submission data at www.noiseordinance.wordpress.com.

We are launched!

November 16, 2009

Hey, everyone! We are officially launched. The project details and information on how to submit are up.. Check out the “THE SKINNY” and “Submit Here!” pages on the menu (top right).

Plus: Dawn Scire is going to write about this project in her weekly column. Be sure to pick up this Thursday’s copy of the Sarasota Herald-Tribune’s TICKET. Thanks, Dawn!

The CD has a name!

Congratulations to Barbara J. Welch for submitting the winning entry through our little Facebook contest to “name that cd!”  The Sarasota music compilation cd will officially be called “Noise Ordinance.”

I think this is a perfect name since the one thing that has tied all us SRQ musicians together over the years is that pesky noise ordinance. Yet, despite that annoyance Sarasota has still managed to host a diverse and fantastic music scene. So, let the games begin!
